One of those days...

Have you encountered one of those days which everything doesn't go according to your wish? Today seems to be such a day for me.

I tried making the Chocolate Swirl bread and Chocolate Wassants after seeing all the wonderful pictures from others' blogs. But the whole thing turns out a flop! I was too lazy to make the chocolate paste and use a chocolate bread spread instead. End up the bread spread is either too soft or too oily, the whole dough with chocolate is just too wet and difficult to handle. The wassants were so ugly that I didn't even bother taking pictures of them. The bread loaf didn't turn out as nice as I wanted it too. I shall attempt this again next time.

Thanks kwf for the honey bbq bacon link. I'm so excited about the gina's baking class on Sat. Hope to finally discover how to correct all the mistakes, cracks in the middle, shallow cakes, etc. I was so inspired by your shao rou that I tried my own. Next on my list, steamed moist choc cake :)

Oh btw, cheer up k? All of us have that kinda day when things just turn out wrong no matter what we do. My cake didn't turn out good last night either so didn't even blog about it :(

Thanks yuri! Have you tried the honey bbq bacon? Very yummy!

I'm sure you'll enjoy the basic baking class. The success rate of your bakes is definitely higher after the class, especially when you know what to look out for.

Saw your Shao Rou, looks very yummy too! Great job!

The steam moist choc cake is a must try. It's so good even on its own!

Hopefully we'll both have higher success rates in our bakes this year. :)

yuri, remember to use medium heat, not high heat when steaming. And remember to give your batter a bang before steaming, also to cover the cake tin with aluminium foil. Then you shd be all right. hahaha...sorry, this old lady very "lor soh".

HHB, thanks for dropping by. I'm a perfectionist (which is bad...lol...). I hope to achieve the nice perfect lines one day. :) Luckily, despite the ugly look, the taste is all right.

Oh dear, read your comments too late! I used an electric steamer and so could not control the heat. No wonder the it wasn't thoroughly steamed. I am keen to try baking bread, what "equipment" do you suggest I get?

Don't give up yuri! This cake is worth trying to get it right. I also have some hiccups during my first trial.

But now I love baking bread even more...lol... If you're looking for an equipment that is just for making bread, then maybe a breadmaker coz you can make bread very easily with that. But if you have a higher budget, I would very much like to encourage you to get the Vita-mix (VM) blender. This machine promotes whole food. I've been using it everyday to make whole fruit juice for the whole family and also to make bread. It is definitely a machine that is worth investing in as it is very durable. Using the VM, I only need to spend about 10-15 minutes to knead the dough. So far I've adapted a few breadmaker recipes and successfully make the breads. It's really very easy to use and clean. Do give it some consideration.
