Coca Cola Chicken (modified version)

Today I decided to cook cola chicken, something I haven't cooked for a long time. There're several versions of the recipe on the net, mostly baked. I chose one which does not require baking and modified from there.

2 versions of recipes over the net

COCA-COLA CHICKEN (non-baked version)

1 chicken, cut up
1 c. catsup
Salt & pepper to taste
1 c. Coca Cola
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce

Place chicken in large frying pan or electric cooker. Salt and pepper to taste. Mix catsup, Coca Cola and Worcestershire sauce. Pour over chicken. Simmer for 1 hour, turning once during cooking time. Serve with rice.

Easy Cola Chicken (baked version)

4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 cup ketchup
1 cup cola-flavored carbonated beverage

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Place the chicken pieces into a 9x13 inch baking dish. Season with salt and pepper. In a medium bowl, mix together the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup and cola. Pour over the chicken. Cover with a lid or aluminum foil. Bake for 50 minutes in the preheated oven, until the chicken is no longer pink.

And this is my modified version

8 skinless chicken drumsticks & thighs
pepper
salt
1 can of coke
tomato ketchup (about 3 tbl)
minced garlic
corn starch

Fry garlic in oil in a wok till fragrant. Add chicken pieces, salt and pepper for seasoning and stir fry for a few minutes. Pour a can of coke into the half cooked chicken and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for about 45 mins, covered. Add ketchup to the chicken after the 45 mins. Increase heat to dry the sauce a little (there should still be quite a large amount of sauce after the 45 mins). Add cornstarch to thicken the sauce.

And the end result is this, sweet and flavorful chicken.

Mood: satisfied

I've heard about coca cola chicken for long time and not yet try, just becoz I'm lazy to bake, hehe. Thanks for non-baken version, it's great for me. I hope it turns out well and my parents will be impressed

chumpman, recently I did this again. If you let the sauce dries up further more, there is no need to use cornstarch to thicken it. You'll get a more flavorful satisfying result in return!
